PGN Plans CNG Filling Station for Surabaya, Multiple Other Locations

Natural gas pressure reducing valve.As a State-owned enterprise (SOE), PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk (PGN) is committed to become the frontline in the conversion program of fuel oil (BBM) to fuel gas (CNG). Particularly in the transport sector, PGN plans to build infrastructure in the form of CNG filling stations (SPBG) and mobile refueling units (MRU). PGN is adding to stations already operating in Jakarta, Bekasi and Bogor with a new CNG filling station launched this week in Ngagel, Surabaya, referred to as SPBG Ngagel.
SPBG Ngagel, fully funded by PGN, will have a capacity of 0.5-1 MMSCFD or 15,000 to 30,000 liters of premium gasoline gallon equivalent (lsp) per day. The price of gas per lsp cost Rp 4500 (USD 0.34)
“The existence of Ngagel SPBG demonstrates a strong commitment from PGN to support government programs in the conversion to CNG fuel,” said Danny Praditya, President Director of PT Gagas Energi Indonesia (GEI), a subsidiary of PGN, speaking at the launch of the project on Monday 9 March. GEI runs the business of natural gas for transportation infrastructure (SPBGs and MRU).
Praditya added that in 2015 PGN will also add one more CNG filling station in Surabaya. In addition, PGN will also supply gas to three SPBG owned by PGN partners in Surabaya.
Currently PGN has an MRU ready to be placed in Surabaya. “We are still coordinating with the Mayor of Surabaya to get a fitting location for the PGN MRU,” said General Manager for PGN SBU Distribution Region II, Wahyudi Anas who was also present at the soft launch.
To introduce the use of CNG in vehicles, PGN has donated 25 converter kits for Surabaya City Government official vehicles. It is also intended to provide an understanding of local government support for the use of environmentally friendly energy and support the blue sky program.
PGN SBU Distribution Region II has consistently been using CNG in 100 operational vehicles, which in practice can save energy costs by 44% compared to the use of conventional fuel. This commitment is also a form of support by PGN to help the Government to reduce dependence on imported fuel.
PGN intends to expand CNG filling infrastructure in three ways: building its own SPBG and MRU, building Integrated Fuel Filling Stations (SPBT) in cooperation with other enterprises such as Pertamina, and working closely with local government.
Until now, PGN has built 5 SPBGs, namely in Pondok Ungu (Bekasi), Ketapang (Jakarta), Bogor, Surabaya and Cilegon. PGN MRUs are operating in IRTI Monas, Pluit Reservoir and Cengkareng. This year PGN will build 16 SPBGs in Sukabumi, Jakarta, Bekasi, Bogor, Batam, Riau, Riau Surabaya.
Furthermore, cooperation with city-owned property development company PT Jakarta Propertindo has resulted in plans to build 20 SPBGs within the next 2 years.
